Mouse Damage in Farnham

Mice chewing through cables in Farnham.

With the cold weather closing in there is nothing nicer than a warm shower in the morning.

However for one of our clients that has been made impossible for the last week.

All thanks to mice chewing through one of there power showers main cables.

A plumber was called out and a new shower unit installed.

Costing them time a money.

This is just one of many examples of how much damage even a small mouse can do.

Why do mice chew cables?

Mice are rodents, which means there teeth are growing constantly, and need to be worn down.

Mice do this by gnawing on on different materials. Pieces of wood, plastic and insulated cables are favorites.

Protecting your home.

At this time of the year mice are looking for somewhere to hide over winter. Your house provides warmth and shelter, as well as potential food.

Here is a quick list of how to protect your home from invading mice

  • Remove bird feeders – Mice will set up camp where there is a readily available supply of food, which bird feeders have in abundance.

  • Check in the loft – Mice don’t like to be in contact with people and will nest in areas you don’t use much, this is why lofts are a prime location for mice living in your house.

  • Vines and creepers – Mice will often use climbing plants like a ladder to scale up onto the roof. Once on the roof, the mouse can squeeze under a tile or the eaves to get inside the house. We suggest keep an area of around two feet around the eaves of your house clear of vegetation.

  • Block holes in the wall – Mice can squeeze through the tiniest of holes. So checking around your property for any holes around pipes, air bricks or gaps around doors. If you can fit a pen through a hole, a mouse will be able to fit through it with no problem!

Unfortunately most houses are impossible to mouse proof completely, which is why we always suggest getting a professional pest controller to check your property if you think you have a problem.
